Nano Coating Painted Steel Doors and Metal Cabinets

Plan a nano coating trial for painted steel doors and cabinets, checking the paint system, repeated handling, cleaning and functional exclusions.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

On a painted steel door or cabinet, the paint is the immediate surface for a nano coating. The steel beneath it does not make an automotive or stainless-steel product automatically suitable. Start by identifying the paint system, its condition and the way the object is used.

Inspect the paint and service history

Record whether the item has factory paint, powder coating or a later repair finish. Check handle areas, edges and lower panels for wear, chips and cleaning damage. Different repair areas may need separate compatibility trials.

If paint is lifting or corrosion is visible beneath it, address that condition before proposing an additional treatment. Coating cannot stabilise an unresolved paint failure or repair a damaged edge.

Define the handling problem

For a frequently used door, fingerprints and cleaning frequency may matter more than water behaviour. For a storage cabinet, adhesive labels and repeated abrasion may dominate. Choose an evaluation task that reflects the actual use instead of borrowing a beading test from a car bonnet.

Keep locks, latches, hinges, seals and electrical grounding or contact points outside the treatment unless the exact use is approved. For a rated or specialised assembly, obtain the responsible manufacturer’s approval before adding a finish.

Trial the complete care process

Use an approved preparation method on a representative area. Compare the paint’s colour and sheen before coating and after the specified cure. Then perform a normal cleaning cycle with the intended cleaner and cloth.

Record whether handling marks can be removed with fewer passes and whether the dry surface remains uniform. If the cleaning process is later changed, reassess compatibility rather than assuming all general-purpose cleaners have the same effect.

Build the handover around maintenance

Identify the treated panels and application date. Explain how to report chips or rust so they receive the appropriate paint repair rather than another coat of surface treatment. A useful nano coating programme supports routine care of a sound painted finish while preserving the door or cabinet’s original functional requirements.
