Compare shampoo performance in two water supplies while holding dose, contamination, tools and rinse procedure consistent.
Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

A shampoo that performs well in one workshop may behave differently with another water supply. A controlled comparison helps determine whether water conditions are relevant without immediately changing the formula or increasing the dose.
Water hardness generally concerns dissolved calcium and magnesium. It is not interchangeable with every dissolved-solids measurement. Choose measurements relevant to the suspected problem and record the sample source, time and any treatment equipment.
| Hold constant | Record |
|---|---|
| Shampoo | Same batch and approved working concentration |
| Surface | Comparable finish and contamination |
| Tools | Equivalent clean wash and drying media |
| Procedure | Wash, rinse and dry sequence |
Use separate containers and tools to avoid mixing the water supplies. Keep temperature and measurement timing comparable. Repeat the trial on independent samples rather than judging one favourable panel.
Record cleaning completeness, rinse demand and the dry appearance. Foam appearance can be recorded, but it is not a complete cleaning measure. A solution that makes less foam may still clean adequately; a thick foam can still leave residue.
If both supplies clean similarly but one leaves more dry spotting, investigate rinse water and drying before changing shampoo strength. If the difference appears during washing, repeat with the same contamination and tools to confirm it is not a handling effect.
Do not add household chemicals to force the two water samples to behave alike. Any water treatment or formulation change needs an appropriate technical assessment and a new documented comparison.
The outcome may support a water-system review, a revised rinse routine or a different compatible product. State which water supplies and conditions were tested. A local comparison can improve the workshop’s process without establishing a universal ranking for every water source.
