Tracing a Glass Defect Back through Washer, Coating and Packing Stations

Trace a shower-glass defect through washing, coating and packing using identified panes and staged observations instead of judging only the final result.

A mark discovered at dispatch may have originated several stations earlier. The fastest investigation follows the same identified pane through the process and asks when the mark first became observable.

Choose inspection points that answer different questions

Inspect suitable representative panes after washing, after the coating’s required processing stage and after packing contact. Use consistent lighting and face identification. Record any step that changes the surface, including re-cleaning or handling.

First observed stage Priority review
After washing Incoming glass, washer and handling
After coating Preparation, material delivery and finishing
After packing contact Separators, pressure and movement

Do not confuse detection with creation

A defect may become visible only under a later inspection light. Before assigning the cause to that station, check whether earlier inspections could detect the same feature. Use a consistent method or deliberately document the difference.

Run a controlled confirmation

If packing contact is suspected, compare matched panes with the defined packaging arrangement and a suitable control. Keep the glass and coating history comparable. Do not change the washer, applicator and separator simultaneously and then claim one was responsible.

Contain uncertainty while investigating

Identify potentially affected panes and hold them under the site’s normal quality process. Record whether they were inspected, reworked or released. Avoid extending a local observation to every batch without supporting evidence.

The investigation should produce a stage-specific cause or a clearly stated remaining uncertainty. Preserving pane identity and intermediate observations makes that outcome far more likely than collecting more photographs only at the end of the line.
