Coating a Stainless Extractor Hood Exterior

Extractor hoods can collect cooking residue, but their exterior finish and functional parts need separate treatment decisions. A coating proposal should clearly identify the decorative surface being considered.

Check the finish and boundaries

Find the manufacturer’s care instructions and note any anti-fingerprint or clear coating. Keep filters, motors, lights, controls and ventilation openings outside a decorative exterior application unless specifically approved. Do not assume all visible metal is bare stainless steel.

Prepare cooking residue appropriately

Use a degreasing method confirmed for the finish and coating process. Follow the appliance’s safe cleaning instructions and protect adjacent cabinets and surfaces. Inspect the dry panel for residue before any approved coating is applied.

Continue the appliance maintenance

A treated exterior does not replace filter care or other maintenance required by the manufacturer. Keep everyday cleaning compatible with the coating and record product changes if streaking appears. Any high-temperature or internal application needs separate confirmation; the word “stainless” alone does not establish suitability.
