Streaks from Cleaner Residue on Stainless Steel

A streaky panel may carry residue from cleaning or polishing products. Before deciding that a coating has failed, review what has been applied and make a controlled cleaning comparison.

Gather the recent history

List cleaners, polishes, oils and protective sprays used on the panel. Note any change in cloths or wiping technique. Inspect the dry surface under normal lighting and identify whether streaks follow the cleaning movement or remain fixed in one location.

Test the agreed routine

Use a clean cloth and the approved method on a discreet area. Complete the specified residue-removal and drying steps. Compare the test with the surrounding panel without introducing several new products at once. A clearer test area may indicate that the wider cleaning process needs adjustment.

Escalate persistent differences

If the mark remains, send photographs and the product history to the installer. Avoid polishing or applying another coating layer to disguise the difference. On factory-finished stainless, a persistent mark may involve the top finish and needs assessment appropriate to that surface system.
