Abrasive Tools on Coated Stainless Steel

Abrasive pads and compounds can change the stainless finish as well as the installed coating. They should not be treated as ordinary cleaning tools without explicit suitability guidance.

Identify the finish at risk

Brushed, polished and factory-coated surfaces may respond differently to abrasion. Check the component manufacturer’s instructions before attempting to remove a stubborn mark. Do not judge suitability from a successful result on another stainless item.

Start with approved cleaning

Use the confirmed cleaner and clean tools, then inspect the dry result. If the mark persists, ask whether it is residue, staining or physical damage. Increasing pressure or using a coarser pad can create an uneven area that is harder to restore than the original mark.

Plan specialist correction

Where abrasion is recommended by a qualified specialist, agree the effect on the finish and coating, the accepted appearance and any local recoating required. Record the work afterward. Keep routine cleaning tools separate from correction tools so the abrasive method is not accidentally repeated during everyday maintenance.
