Squeegee Lines under Clear Film: Locate the Defect before Attempting Surface Correction

Locate apparent squeegee lines relative to the film surface before choosing cleaning, installation review or any corrective action.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

A line visible through clear PPF may be on the exposed surface, within the film system or underneath it. The useful first decision is its location. Treating every line as a polishable surface mark can turn an uncertain appearance issue into avoidable damage.

Build a simple observation set

Record the line before cleaning. View it under a broad light and a smaller directional light, changing the viewing angle while keeping the panel position identifiable. Include a wider photograph showing its path across the panel. These observations help describe the defect, but photographs alone may not establish its depth.

Use only the approved cleaning check

If the film instructions permit routine cleaning at this stage, use that method on a small area and reassess. A mark that disappears was associated with removable surface material. A persistent line still needs diagnosis; persistence does not prove that it lies beneath the film.

Do not use coating as a diagnostic mask

Approve the underlying appearance before applying a coating. Record any accepted residual mark and the customer’s agreed scope. Abrasive correction, heat or film removal requires the relevant manufacturer’s procedure and an appropriate operator. A clear defect record is more valuable than an improvised treatment that temporarily changes the reflection without resolving the cause.
