Distinguish laminated smart glass from exposed smart film and confirm surface, edge and electrical-system care before treatment.
Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge
Switchable glazing can be a laminated smart-glass assembly or a film applied to existing glass. The exposed face, edges and electrical connections can therefore differ. A treatment suitable for ordinary glass is not automatically suitable for an exposed smart film or its installation boundaries.
Ask the installer for the product identity, installation type and current maintenance instructions. Identify whether the side being treated is glass, an exposed film or another factory layer. Do not infer construction solely from the switchable appearance.
Gauzy's installation guidance distinguishes smart film from laminated smart glass and emphasizes product-specific maintenance. Preserve that distinction in the surface map and cleaning contract.
Follow the system manufacturer's cleaning and power-state instructions. Avoid introducing liquid beneath film edges, into profiles or around electrical connections. A normal window-cleaning technique may be inappropriate at those boundaries.
If edge sealing or the electrical assembly is damaged, refer it to the installer before cosmetic treatment. A protective coating cannot restore an electrical enclosure or repair a lifting smart film.
Any proposed additional layer needs approval for the exposed material and the intended optical result. Evaluate both operating states and the relevant viewing angles through an agreed process. Water beading alone says nothing about switching performance, haze or long-term adhesion.
For a NANOLAB project, provide the glazing-system documentation and define exactly which face is under consideration. Do not apply ordinary glass compatibility to exposed film by analogy. A good maintenance handover preserves the original installer instructions and identifies any separately approved treatment, so future cleaners understand the complete system they are handling.
