Test whether a coating ranking survives reasonable changes in weights, uncertain measurements and missing evidence before selecting a winner.

A coating ranked first by a small margin may owe that position to one uncertain score or an arbitrary weight. Sensitivity analysis asks whether the decision changes when plausible assumptions change.
Do not allow high scores elsewhere to offset a failed mandatory requirement. Perform sensitivity checks only among options that meet the necessary use, compatibility and documentation gates.
Recalculate the ranking using a few justified scenarios. For example, compare a maintenance-focused weighting with an application-efficiency weighting. Vary uncertain values within evidence-based ranges rather than choosing extreme values solely to favour a preferred product.
If the same option remains preferred across credible scenarios, the decision is more robust to those assumptions. If the winner changes, identify which input drives the switch. A targeted cleanability or application trial may then be more valuable than collecting more data on an already well-understood property. Report the scenario results with the final choice so the customer can see which priorities and uncertainties matter.
