Identify flexible seals, textured mouldings and any existing dressings. Photograph faded or damaged trim so it is not confused with a new polishing mark. Check masking adhesion in an inconspicuous area, especially on aged surfaces.
A stiff brush or strong solvent may remove white residue while altering the original trim finish. Test the cleanup before treating a long strip, and do not scrub repeatedly merely because the paint looks good.
The corrected paint and adjacent trim should both pass dry inspection. If residue has become embedded, document it and seek product-specific advice rather than masking the problem with a dressing that washes away.
