Nano Coating Bead-Blasted Stainless Steel

Evaluate nano coating on bead-blasted stainless steel with texture-matched samples, dry appearance checks and realistic cleaning trials.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

Bead-blasted stainless steel has a diffuse, textured appearance that behaves differently from a mirror-polished sheet during inspection and cleaning. A coating trial should use the actual finish, not a polished sample of the same alloy. Texture is part of the specification.

Establish the finish baseline

Ask the fabricator for the surface specification and care requirements. Record any existing protective treatment. Photograph clean, dry samples under the lighting used in the finished installation, including shallow angles that reveal unevenness.

Check whether adjacent panels have the same texture and orientation. If the baseline is inconsistent, resolve the acceptable appearance before using a coating to try to make them match.

Plan preparation without burnishing

Use the approved cleaner and cloth method. Repeated aggressive rubbing can change the appearance of a textured finish, so do not compensate for stubborn marks by increasing pressure indefinitely. Distinguish removable contamination from a finish defect needing fabricator advice.

Confirm the preparation required by the nano coating supplier. If that preparation conflicts with the fabricator’s care rules, stop and resolve the process on samples.

Examine residue in the texture

Apply the coating to a representative sample using the proposed tools and quantity. Inspect after the specified cure for darkening, uneven sheen and residue in recesses. A finish can look uniform straight on while showing different patches under side lighting.

After washing is permitted, test ordinary handling-mark removal with the intended cleaner. Record cleaning passes, final appearance and any cloth fibres left behind. Do not judge success only by the size of water droplets.

Choose an appropriate application scope

Decorative wall panels and a high-touch fixture may need different maintenance trials even if their metal finish is identical. Keep food-contact, hot or functional surfaces outside the approval unless those uses are specifically documented. Maintain a treatment record with sample photos and the approved cleaning method so the result can be repeated across later panels and repair work.
