Inspecting a Coated Boat at the Start of the Season

After storage, a boat deserves a fresh inspection before routine use resumes. The aim is to identify deposits, handling marks and maintenance needs while the vessel is still easy to access.

Clean before assessing performance

Remove storage dirt with the approved wash process and inspect dry surfaces. Note marks near covers, straps and frequently handled areas. Water behaviour over a dirty panel is not enough to decide whether a coating needs renewal.

Compare with the handover record

Use earlier photographs and the treated-surface map to locate changes. Look around fittings, edges and shaded areas as well as broad visible panels. Distinguish an appearance issue from a repair concern such as damaged seals or deteriorating metal. Refer those findings to the appropriate specialist.

Set the season’s maintenance plan

Confirm the cleaner and tools that will be used, replace unsuitable wash media and make the care instructions available to the crew. If a local service is needed, complete it before assuming the whole vessel requires a new coating. Keep the inspection date and findings in the maintenance log for comparison later in the season.
