Assess the starting condition

Check where overhead fixtures reflect in the roof and bonnet. Narrow spaces may make it difficult to stand far enough back to compare broad reflections. Clean the inspection area and make sure restricted access does not force awkward pad contact.

A practical working method

  1. Use a handheld inspection light from several controlled angles, keeping the viewing distance consistent.
  2. Compare the test area with an untouched reference after residue removal.
  3. Reposition the car only when the floor, cables and surrounding clearance allow a safe move.
  4. Use another suitable inspection location if roof access or visibility remains inadequate.

Common mistake

Increasing correction because a ceiling reflection looks distorted can confuse surface shape with polishing defects. Equally, accepting the finish only under diffuse lighting may miss local haze.

What a useful result looks like

A useful record states the inspection conditions and the defects addressed. If the garage cannot support both correction and reliable inspection, change the working location before continuing. The final protection stage also needs its own environmental and access checks.
