Heavy-Cut Test Area to Full Panel: Check What Changes During Scale-Up

A successful small heavy-cut test does not settle every condition across a panel. Validate coverage, pad state and finish variation when extending the process.

Define the original trial

Record the test area, finish history, pad condition and accepted result. Include the approved residue-removal method. A trial described only as heavy cut worked does not give the operator enough information to reproduce it.

Inspect the rest of the panel

Map edges, curves, repairs and defect differences before extending the method. Keep areas with uncertain history outside an automatic scale-up. The flat test area may not represent every part of the component.

Monitor the working system

Review pad loading, product behaviour and machine control as the work progresses. Follow the supplied process for cleaning and changing consumables. Compare intermediate dry inspection results with the accepted reference rather than assuming the first section predicts the whole job.

Check coverage before moving on

Inspect representative areas and transitions after residue removal. Record retained marks and any process changes. Decide whether a finishing stage is needed from the actual completed surface, not solely from the appearance of the initial test.

Frequently asked question

Can one good test spot approve heavy cut on the entire vehicle?

No. Extend the result only where finish, condition and access support it, and verify materially different areas.
