Gloss Units Are Not a Percentage of Shine

Gloss units are a reference-based measurement scale, not a universal percentage of shine. Interpretation also depends on measurement geometry.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

Practical approach

Report GU with the angle and method, and compare suitable like surfaces.

A value of 80 GU should not be marketed as 80% reflective without the appropriate defined conversion and context.

Decision limits

Do not cap all results at 100 or assume a higher number directly measures overall customer-perceived quality.
