Fine lines noticed after wiping off finish polish can come from several sources: retained defects, polishing marring or the wiping contact itself. Recording wipe direction in a small diagnostic area helps distinguish those possibilities without repeatedly polishing the whole panel.
Inspect a cleaned accepted area under a useful light and photograph it. Use a fresh suitable towel and the approved cleaning method on a limited adjacent area, noting the direction of travel. Keep pressure and contact appropriate for the finish; the exercise is observation, not an attempt to create scratches.
Inspect again from the same position and another useful angle. Lines aligned with the wipe direction justify checking the towel and surface contamination, but alignment alone does not prove causation. Existing marks can share the same direction.
Remove questionable towels from use and inspect for particles, hardened residue or damaged edges. Confirm that the cleaning product and method suit the paint. If the surface is a recent refinish or marks unusually easily, review its readiness with the responsible refinisher.
Do not switch to a more aggressive polish to solve marks that are being introduced during the final wipe. That adds abrasion while leaving the cause in place.
Where correction is appropriate, refine a small affected area and use the revised removal method. Inspect whether the original fine pattern is resolved and whether the final contact leaves new lines.
Keep the successful towel and cleaning method in the accepted process record. A finishing liquid’s performance cannot be separated from the way its residue is removed and the surface is prepared afterward.
If the observations remain ambiguous, state that uncertainty and preserve the reference rather than repeatedly reworking it. A controlled directional check is useful because it narrows the investigation. It should not become an unsupported declaration that every scratch seen after wiping was caused by the towel.
