A full polishing range.
From cutting and one-step correction to final finishing.
A network of fine cracks can look like severe scratching under some lights. Confirm whether the paint is fractured before proposing a compound-and-polish service.

Swirls commonly form curved or directional fine marks. Cracking can form interconnected lines, star-like shapes or breaks concentrated around an edge or repair. Use more than one light direction and examine the surrounding surface. Photographs should show both the pattern and the panel location rather than only a highly magnified patch.
A heavier compound is not a safe way to find out how deep cracks extend. Polishing removes material from the surface; it does not rebuild fractured paint. PPG’s cracking guidance distinguishes damage limited to the topcoat from deeper failures and describes refinishing remedies. The correct route depends on the actual paint system.
Record visible cracking, unknown repair history and any signs of lifting or exposed substrate. Avoid certifying the paint as structurally sound from a thickness reading alone. A gauge reading and an attractive reflection are useful observations, not evidence that all layers are intact.
Offer a referral for the affected area and a separate scope for sound panels if worthwhile. Explain that a coating can change appearance or cleanability on a suitable finish, but cannot guarantee against propagation of existing cracks. Keep the before photographs and the agreed exclusions with the job record.
Do not assume the lines are shallow scratches. Identify the defect first; confirmed cracking should be assessed as a paint repair problem.
