After a meal break, overnight pause or interruption, the pad and panel may no longer be in the state that produced the accepted compounding result. Restarting mid-cycle from memory can introduce dried residue or contamination. Use a short restart check before continuing.
Before the break, note which areas are compounded, which are cleaned and which have passed inspection. Record any unfinished section and retained defects. Do not rely on the remaining product film to show where work stopped; the film can change or be removed accidentally.
Store the tool, pad and product in conditions appropriate to their instructions. Keep exposed working surfaces away from dust and unrelated shop activity. Do not leave a loaded pad resting on the vehicle.
Inspect the pad and bottle nozzle for dried material. Clean or replace the pad according to the manufacturer’s procedure and prepare it as required. Check the panel for new dust, moisture or contamination before contact.
Do not revive dried compound on the paint with an improvised solvent or assume that adding fresh liquid makes an old loaded pad equivalent to the original test condition.
Use a small appropriate area and the accepted method. Clean and inspect it against the saved reference. If handling or finish differs, resolve the change before returning to full production.
At the old-to-new section boundary, check for an untreated strip, excess overlap or a band of different haze. The restart should preserve consistent coverage rather than create a new visible dividing line.
A useful restart checklist is brief: surface checked, pad restored, product prepared, work map confirmed and first section accepted. It should prevent mistakes without becoming a substitute for judgement.
The interruption itself is not a problem. The problem is assuming that the working state remained unchanged while the operator was away. A controlled restart keeps the rest of the job comparable to the process that was originally tested.
