Coating Work in Progress: Mark the Last Completed Inspection

A panel map should distinguish application from inspection. Marking both stages helps a team resume work without guessing what remains.

Choose unambiguous states

Use separate entries for prepared, applied, levelled and inspected where those states fit the product process. Avoid a single tick called done when different installers interpret it differently. Keep the map available without bringing contaminated paperwork onto prepared paint.

Record the real boundary

Identify the last completed area using fixed vehicle features. Note any application interruption, changed conditions or unresolved residue. Do not restart across a section boundary using an assumed timing when the actual coating instructions require assessment.

Resume from evidence

Read the record and inspect the vehicle before continuing. A second installer should know what is confirmed and what needs a check. Complete the final inspection across transitions, then retain the map with the job history rather than relying on memory at delivery.

Frequently asked question

Can one colour on a panel map represent every installation stage?

Only if its meaning is genuinely unambiguous. Separate stages usually make interruptions and handovers clearer.
