A specimen can be evaluated for both mass change and dimensional change, but those measurements should remain separately identified. One percentage does not automatically describe the other property.
Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge
Each result has its own starting value, measurement method and units. A report should identify whether it discusses grams, thickness, length or another dimension before calculating a relative change or comparing specimens.
Illustrative example: a report records a two-percent mass increase and a separately measured thickness result. The summary preserves both outcomes instead of describing the specimen as having expanded by two percent.
These distinctions do not diagnose absorption, swelling or coating failure. Interpretation requires the actual test conditions, measurement quality and substrate behaviour; the numerical values alone cannot establish the mechanism.
