Coating Project Travel Time: Allocate It to Visits, Not Surface Area Alone

Travel is driven by site visits rather than directly by coated area. A staged project can require more travel than a single visit with the same total surface area.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

The key distinction

Separate travel, site setup and productive work in the estimate. The project sequence and cure or access requirements determine how many visits are realistically needed. A square-metre rate may include travel commercially, but the internal planning model should still reveal it.

Practical checks

  1. List the required visits and their purpose.
  2. Estimate travel and site-access time for each visit.
  3. Recalculate when staging or appointment requirements change.

Example

Arithmetic example: three visits with one hour of travel each require three travel hours, even if the total coating area is small. Combining the work into one feasible visit would change that component of the estimate.

Scope and limits

Do not compress required cure or inspection stages merely to reduce travel. Product instructions and the agreed site conditions govern whether visits can genuinely be combined.
