Ceramic Coating Training: Define a Practical Assessment

Assess observable coating-work skills with a defined task, clear criteria and a documented result.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

A ceramic coating training assessment should show whether an installer can carry out the required process. Attendance alone does not demonstrate readiness. A practical assessment makes the expected behaviour visible without claiming a certification that the programme does not actually provide.

Choose an observable task

Use a representative surface and the current product instructions. Define the expected preparation, equipment, conditions, application and inspection steps. Include a point where the trainee must identify an unsuitable condition and explain when to stop.

Set the criteria before the exercise. Examples include correct product identification, clean tool separation, controlled section size and complete residue inspection. Avoid criteria that reward speed at the expense of the prescribed process.

Record evidence, not impressions

The assessor should note what was observed and where support was needed. A statement such as ‘missed lower-edge inspection’ is more useful than ‘needs confidence’. Separate a correct explanation from a consistently demonstrated skill.

Use a repeat task where necessary after feedback. Keep the initial and later results distinct so progress is visible. Do not describe one successful test panel as proof of competence on every vehicle material and coating system.

Connect approval to scope

Record which product and task the assessment covered, along with the instruction version. Changes to the formula, equipment or supported surfaces may require additional training. Any manufacturer certification must follow that manufacturer’s actual programme.

Use NANOLAB documentation as the technical reference for supported products. A clear practical assessment gives the workshop a defensible training record and helps the installer recognise both what they can do and when further guidance is required.
