Preparing a Distributor to Sell and Support Coatings

Give a coating distributor the product references, approved descriptions, storage information and support process needed for a reliable launch.

A distributor needs more than a price list to represent a ceramic coating range accurately. Onboarding should connect product selection, stock handling, sales information and technical support. The aim is to make the first customer order as clear and traceable as the tenth.

Start with a controlled product list

Provide product references, pack sizes, intended surfaces and user restrictions. Identify which items are available and which remain under development. Do not let an early concept or sample become an orderable product simply because it appears in an old presentation.

Link the list to the product specification sheet. A distributor should be able to match the ordered item to the label, invoice and current instructions without interpreting informal product nicknames.

Supply approved customer-facing information

Provide concise descriptions, suitable images and the current application and aftercare guidance. Clearly distinguish a base coating, a final protection product and a maintenance treatment. Explain the limits of approved claims so that sales staff do not create stronger promises when answering questions.

Use the claims evidence file as an internal reference for statements that need support. It is better to provide an accurate short answer than to encourage improvisation around technical numbers.

Walk through receiving and support

Agree how stock will be checked, stored and traced to customer orders. Demonstrate how to report a damaged pack or an application concern. The support request should identify the product, batch, surface and conditions before proposing a cause.

A useful onboarding exercise is to process one sample order and one fictional support case. Ask the distributor to locate the correct product record and explain who handles the next step. This exposes missing information while the consequences are small.

Confirm readiness before broad promotion

Check that the distributor’s product pages, staff guidance and physical stock use consistent references. Record outstanding questions and assign an owner. If translated instructions are involved, complete the translation review before launch.
