A Microfiber Laundry Trial: Find Whether the Wash or Drying Stage Changed

Investigate a change in microfiber performance with a small laundry comparison that separates washing, drying and storage variables.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

When drying towels suddenly smear or absorb poorly, the laundry process deserves investigation. Changing detergent, dryer settings and storage at the same time may fix the symptom but leave the cause unknown.

Reconstruct the change

Record detergent, dose, load composition, rinse settings, drying method and storage location. Check whether towels were mixed with incompatible residues or whether a new product entered the wash load. Keep heavily contaminated or coating-application materials separate according to their handling requirements.

Use matched towel groups

Select comparable towels with known history. Change one stage at a time within the textile and equipment instructions. For example, hold the wash process constant while comparing the established drying method with a proposed alternative.

Observed issue Stage to examine
Smear on clean reference glass Residue from washing, drying or storage
Reduced pickup Contamination, laundry process or towel condition
New lint Load mixing, wear and drying process
Dust after storage Storage protection and handling

Evaluate more than softness

A towel can feel soft while leaving residue. Use a repeatable pickup check and inspect the dry finish on a suitable reference surface. Keep the test area and wiping procedure consistent, and record any visible transfer.

A practical interpretation

If matched towels washed identically behave differently only after one drying route, investigate that route and its contact surfaces. Do not immediately conclude that the towel fibre is defective. If both groups perform poorly, return to earlier stages and the towels’ contamination history.

Restore a controlled routine

Once a suitable process is identified, document the settings, dose and load-separation rules. Recheck after a meaningful equipment or product change. Do not improvise solvent washing or chemical mixtures to recover towels for paint use.

The goal is a towel that performs consistently without transferring contamination. A small controlled laundry trial can protect many future vehicle finishes from a recurring process problem.
