A Coating Distributor’s First 90 Days: Measure Activation and Repeat Use

Track a coating distributor's first ninety days through installer activation, accepted applications, support needs and repeat demand.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

Initial distributor purchases show that stock entered the channel. They do not show that installers understand the products or that customers will reorder. The first ninety days should measure adoption as well as sales.

Use a short activation funnel

Stage Observable event
Received Stock and documentation checked
Trained Installer completes the relevant practical review
Activated First accepted application documented
Repeated Further use or a qualified reorder occurs

Define each stage before counting. Watching a video is not the same as demonstrating correct product selection and application decisions.

Review the first applications

Collect surface, product, conditions, finish and any rework. Keep feedback short enough that installers will actually provide it. Ask what slowed the job and which instruction was unclear, not only whether they liked the coating.

Distinguish healthy support from repeated confusion

Early questions are normal during onboarding. Repeated questions about the same step suggest an instruction or training issue. Track the topic and resolution so the distributor’s team can answer consistently.

A practical review sequence

At the first review, confirm stock receipt and readiness. At the next, examine accepted applications and recurring questions. By the end of the initial period, review repeat use, stock age and unresolved technical cases. The exact timing should fit shipment and customer activity rather than a rigid calendar.

Interpret reorders with context

A large reorder may reflect genuine demand, an opening promotion or stock being moved between resellers. Ask which products reached end users and which remain on shelves. Low reorder volume can also reflect a deliberately large opening order rather than poor product acceptance.

The output should be a focused action plan: more training, clearer selection guidance, adjusted stock mix or a targeted technical review. A distributor launch succeeds when the channel can sell, apply and support the product repeatedly, not merely receive the first shipment.

Discuss your private-label coating project. For application and care, use the current instructions for the exact product.
