A Coated-Side Identification System for Shower Glass Factories

Keep the treated face of shower glass identifiable through coating, handling, packing and installation using a simple traceable system.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

A correctly applied coating delivers little value if the treated face cannot be identified during installation. The identification system should survive every handover without relying on a water-beading demonstration or an operator’s memory.

Define the reference orientation

Use the order drawing to name faces consistently. For example, identify the intended shower-facing surface relative to a specific hinge cut-out or drawing view. Avoid ambiguous instructions such as “front” when different teams view the pane from opposite sides.

Record Required information
Drawing Face designation and orientation feature
Process traveller Panel ID, coating batch and treated face
Rack position Panel ID and current status
Packing instruction How orientation reaches the installer

Use marking methods that do not create defects

Agree suitable labels, tags or edge identification with the glass and coating suppliers. Do not place an untested adhesive on the treated area merely because it is easy to see. Check that the chosen method does not transfer residue, conceal damage or conflict with the glass handling process.

Challenge the system during the pilot

Ask an operator who did not coat the pane to identify the intended installation face using only the normal records. Repeat after packing and unpacking. If identification requires asking the original operator, the system has not yet passed the handover test.

Include mirrored or left-hand/right-hand components. These often expose an orientation rule that was clear only for the first sample. Keep unique panel identity separate from the face designation: “face A” alone cannot identify which order a pane belongs to.

Handle uncertainty explicitly

If a label is lost or records conflict, hold the panel for review. Do not infer its status from appearance and continue production. The coating may be visually transparent, and water behaviour can be influenced by other surface conditions.

A strong release record connects the physical pane, treatment face and order requirement. This prevents avoidable installation confusion and gives technical support a reliable starting point if a customer later reports different behaviour on the two faces.
