Applicator Storage Between Panels: Keep the Contact Face Protected

An applicator needs a defined resting place between coating sections.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

An applicator needs a defined resting place between coating sections. Putting its contact face on a bench, towel pile or bottle tray can introduce contamination just before it returns to prepared paint. Storage during active use also has to respect the product's working time; protecting an applicator does not make it indefinitely reusable.

Create a clean resting position

Use a stable holder or surface compatible with the applicator and coating. Arrange it so the working face avoids unwanted contact and remains easy to identify. Keep the position separate from used towels, caps with residue and tools that have touched unprepared surfaces.

Do not place an active applicator into the clean-stock container. The next operator should be able to distinguish unused, currently active and discarded items without examining each one. A simple labelled layout is usually enough.

Follow the coating instructions for replenishment, replacement and interruption handling. Product accumulating in an applicator may change how it spreads. Avoid assuming that a fresh addition of liquid restores an applicator that has become unsuitable during a pause.

Restart with an inspection

Before returning to the panel, inspect the applicator for debris, stiff areas and abnormal drag. If its condition is uncertain, replace it according to the product process. Do not test a questionable face on the most visible panel of the vehicle.

When work stops for longer than the permitted application interval, follow the specified restart procedure and document the completed boundary. Dispose of or handle used materials according to the relevant instructions. At the end of the job, clean the holder itself so tomorrow's first applicator does not inherit residue from today's last section.
