A dark line at a PPF edge may be dirt on the surface, contamination under a lifted edge or a visual effect from the installation itself. Owners can document what they see, but should avoid pulling or scraping the film to discover what is underneath. That can turn a small observation into a larger repair.
Clean the area using the film's maintenance instructions and let it dry. Photograph the line from directly above and from a shallow angle. Include a wider view showing its location on the panel and a close view with a scale nearby, without touching the film with a hard measuring edge.
Look for a change in the edge's position, visible lifting or trapped liquid. Compare with earlier photographs if available. A mark that disappears during normal cleaning is different from a gap that remains beneath the film. Avoid making a firm diagnosis from colour alone.
Note when the issue appeared and whether it followed washing, impact, repair or another service. This history helps the installer choose an inspection route, even when the owner cannot identify the cause.
Do not inject cleaner or adhesive under the edge, cut away a loose section or apply coating to seal it down. These actions may complicate repair and the assessment of warranty terms. Follow the installer's instructions for interim care.
Ask whether the area needs cleaning, edge adjustment, replacement or further inspection. The answer depends on the exact film and installation condition. Until assessed, avoid directing pressure at the affected edge and do not repeatedly test its strength by lifting it. A clear record is more helpful than an improvised repair.
