PPF Edge Shadow vs a Dirt Line: Use a Controlled Clean

A visible boundary on partial PPF may be an optical edge or removable contamination. Establish which observation remains after appropriate cleaning.

Record the dry boundary

Photograph a broad view that shows the coverage line. Check for dirt accumulated beside the film rather than immediately describing the line as an installation defect. Avoid picking at the edge or testing it with a fingernail.

Clean within film guidance

Use suitable tools and the film’s care method, controlling pressure and direction near the edge. Do not force liquid beneath the film or attempt to erase the boundary with compound. The uncovered paint and film may need different product decisions.

Explain what remains

After drying, compare the same view. An intact film boundary can remain visible through thickness and reflection even when contamination is removed. If the edge is lifting, damaged or otherwise abnormal, refer it to the installer. Record the distinction in the maintenance handover.

Frequently asked question

Should every visible partial-PPF line disappear after washing?

No. A sound film boundary can remain optically visible even when it is clean.
