A car kept in a garage may need little abrasive correction, or it may still carry wash marks and contamination. Storage location alone does not decide whether fine cut is worthwhile. Inspect the condition and define the objective before adding a polishing stage to an annual routine.
Begin with appropriate cleaning and inspection. Reduced gloss or poor water behaviour can relate to contamination or an existing protection layer; they do not automatically establish a need to abrade the paint. Complete the relevant maintenance diagnosis first.
Review previous correction and repair history. Low mileage does not reveal how often the finish has been polished. An enthusiast-owned vehicle may have received repeated cosmetic work despite spending most of its life indoors.
If light marring remains and the owner wants it reduced, use a suitable fine-cut test on a representative area. Inspect the cleaned result beside an untreated reference. Evaluate whether the difference is meaningful under the agreed viewing conditions.
If the paint already meets the goal, preserve that result and proceed with compatible maintenance or protection as appropriate. A calendar date is not evidence that another abrasive cycle will add useful value.
A garage-kept car can invite close inspection of every small mark. Keep isolated deeper defects separate from the broad finish goal and assess whether their removal is justified. Fine cut is still material-removing work, even when the bottle is described as mild.
Document any accepted retained marks so a future service does not repeatedly attempt to remove them. A simple correction history can be especially useful for a car serviced by several detailers over time.
The practical standard is condition-based care. Polishing should solve a verified appearance problem with a suitable process, not serve as proof that the owner has maintained the car diligently. Sometimes the best fine-cut decision is to confirm that the finish does not currently need it.
