A heavy-cut test can look different immediately after polishing and later after the panel has cooled and residue has been removed. That change deserves investigation before the process is repeated over the car. Do not assume that scratches have literally grown back or that one chemical explanation accounts for every case.
Record the immediate appearance, but make the acceptance decision under suitable, stable inspection conditions. Use the same light position and a compatible cleaning method. A wet-looking film, changing cleaner residue or different camera exposure can all change the apparent result.
If the later view shows more marking, first reproduce the original viewing geometry. Confirm that the area has not been touched by a contaminated towel or exposed to new dust. Time alone is not evidence of a particular mechanism.
Keep one part of the area as a reference. Clean another part carefully with a fresh compatible towel and inspect. If the appearance changes with cleaning, residue or the wipe process is involved. If stable marks remain, assess whether they match the original defects or a newly introduced cutting pattern.
Where the paint condition permits, test the planned refinement on a limited section. A successful finishing result can show that the issue is residual marring, but it does not explain every aspect of the earlier change.
A useful note says: ‘Additional fine marks visible after cooling and approved residue removal under the original lamp position.’ A weak note declares ‘the compound expanded the paint’ without evidence. Keep observed facts separate from proposed causes.
If a refinish shows unusual softness, swelling-like behaviour or persistent instability, consult the paint or product supplier and the refinisher. Do not try progressively stronger cleaners to force a diagnosis.
The working process should be accepted only after the finish remains satisfactory through its intended inspection and preparation steps. Immediate gloss is a useful observation; a stable, cleaned result is the more useful basis for proceeding.
