Coating Supplier Performance Reviews: Separate One-Off Events from Recurring Patterns

A supplier review should distinguish a single unusual event from a recurring pattern. Both can matter, but they require different evidence and may justify different corrective actions.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

The key distinction

Preserve the individual event details before summarizing. Then compare equivalent orders, products and time windows so that a large or unusual transaction does not distort the whole relationship. A useful review explains what happened, its effect and whether the agreed response prevented recurrence.

Practical checks

  1. Define the event categories and their denominators.
  2. Review repeated occurrences and the conditions they share.
  3. Track the completion and effectiveness of agreed corrective actions.

Example

Illustrative example: one complex custom-pack order is delayed while routine orders arrive as agreed. A simple average may hide the difference in scope. The review should examine the custom-order dependency while retaining a separate view of routine supply performance.

Scope and limits

Do not dismiss a serious event because it is rare or condemn a supplier from an unrepresentative sample. This guide does not set universal supplier ratings. Use the actual requirements, consequences and evidence, and keep product performance distinct from logistics or communication issues.
