Coating Trade Discounts: Two Sequential Discounts Do Not Simply Add

Sequential discounts apply to changing bases. Two ten-percent discounts normally produce a nineteen-percent reduction from the original price when the second is applied to the already discounted amount.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

The key distinction

Confirm the supplier's actual pricing terms before calculating. A quotation may use another structure, and delivery, taxes or excluded items can remain outside the discount.

Practical checks

  1. Identify the base to which each discount applies.
  2. Calculate them in the stated sequence.
  3. Reconcile the final amount with the supplier acknowledgement.

Example

Arithmetic example: an illustrative price of 100 becomes 90 after the first ten-percent discount and 81 after the second. It does not become 80 under that sequential calculation.

Scope and limits

This is arithmetic, not a NANOLAB offer. Do not assume discounts can be combined or applied to every line; use the current confirmed commercial terms for the specific order.
