Coating Test Reports: Identify Whether the Specimen Was Scribed

A deliberate scribe exposes a different test condition from an intact coated specimen. The report should identify which condition was evaluated.

Practical approach

Record the scribe preparation and evaluation method where applicable. Compare like specimen configurations and keep intact-area observations separate.

Corrosion spreading from an intentional cut does not describe exactly the same challenge as exposure of an undamaged surface.

Decision limits

Do not combine scribed and unscribed results into one unsupported protection claim. Ask the laboratory to explain the method's intended interpretation.
