Coating Bottle Caps: Distinguish Application Torque from Removal Torque

Torque used to apply a closure and torque needed to remove it are different measurements. They should not be treated as interchangeable approval values.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

Practical approach

Ask the closure supplier for the appropriate method, timing and limits. Record the bottle, cap, liner and conditioning period with each measurement.

A cap opened immediately after filling may give a different result from one opened after storage. Comparing them without recording time confounds the review.

Decision limits

Do not copy a torque value from another neck or liner combination. Excessive tightening can create problems rather than improve sealing.
