Identify acrylic caravan windows and follow their approved care instructions before considering any glass cleaner or protective coating.
Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge
Many caravan and camper windows are acrylic rather than mineral glass. Products intended for car windscreens or household glass may be unsuitable for them. Identify the window material and manufacturer before cleaning, polishing or proposing a protective treatment.
Dometic's acrylic-window guidance restricts cleaning to approved products and warns against alcohol-containing or aggressive cleaners. That guidance illustrates why a generic “glass-safe” label is insufficient for plastic glazing. Other window models may have their own instructions and surface treatments.
Do not identify the material by scratching, solvent testing or another damaging experiment. Use the component label, owner documentation or manufacturer support. If the identity remains uncertain, pause the treatment proposal.
During adjacent panel preparation, control drips, overspray and contaminated towels. A product can reach a window even when the installer never intends to coat it. Plan the boundary and use suitable protection that does not itself damage the glazing or seals.
An inconspicuous spot test is not enough to establish long-term optical and material compatibility. Some damage may not appear immediately, and a tiny test cannot prove performance under sunlight, stress and repeated cleaning.
Cloudiness, fine scratches and chemical damage are different conditions. Follow the window manufacturer's assessment and repair guidance rather than applying an automotive compound by analogy. Optical components need a clear, uniform result without distortion.
For an RV coating quotation, list acrylic windows as a separate material and exclude them unless the exact treatment is approved for that glazing system. Ask NANOLAB about a proposed product using the window identity and finish details; approval for ordinary glass should not be treated as approval for acrylic.
