A three-stage correction job needs towel separation as well as pad separation. Residue carried from cutting into final inspection can confuse the result.

Assess the starting condition

Assign towels by actual role: initial residue removal, refinement cleanup and final inspection. Colour coding is useful only when the workshop documents what each colour means and keeps the towels clean.

A practical working method

  1. Prepare enough clean towels before starting rather than reusing a heavily loaded cloth.
  2. Keep cutting-stage towels away from clean finishing pads and prepared paint.
  3. Fold to expose clean faces and retire a towel when contamination or performance is uncertain.
  4. Inspect the final surface with the intended clean inspection method.

Common mistake

A soft towel is not necessarily a clean towel. Laundering everything together without considering product residues can undermine the separation established during the job.

What a useful result looks like

The accepted routine makes towel roles traceable and prevents residue transfer. Check the microfiber and product manufacturers’ care instructions when laundering, and replace towels that no longer support a reliable dry inspection.
