Polishing Before a Colour-Change Vehicle Wrap

Paint correction before a colour-change wrap should support the installer’s requirements. A highly protected show finish may be the wrong handover surface for adhesive film.

Assess the starting condition

Confirm which panels will be wrapped, the paint history and whether existing protection needs removal. Inspect unstable paint before correction; wrapping over a damaged finish does not make it sound.

A practical working method

  1. Agree with the installer on the required correction and preparation scope.
  2. Improve only supported defects that matter to the wrapped result.
  3. Remove process residues using the film system’s approved preparation method.
  4. Keep unapproved waxes, glazes and coatings off the adhesive bonding area.

Common mistake

Finishing with a favourite sealant after polishing can create unnecessary preparation work for the wrap installer. Chasing perfection beyond the agreed scope can also remove paint without useful benefit.

What a useful result looks like

A useful handover identifies treated panels, remaining defects and product history. After wrapping, maintain and protect the film under its own instructions; the paint process and the wrap-care process are different stages.
