Paint Correction Before Installing Paint Protection Film on Only the Bonnet

Bonnet-only PPF makes the correction boundary important. The installer needs suitable prepared paint beneath the film, while the rest of the car may need a different finish and protection plan.

Assess the starting condition

Confirm the exact film coverage, edge treatment and installation date. Inspect the bonnet after washing and discuss any paint repairs with the installer. Film installation does not automatically justify the most aggressive correction available.

A practical working method

  1. Agree the visual standard for the bonnet and compare it with adjacent wings.
  2. Correct only supported defects, using a test area to establish the process.
  3. Finish with the preparation required by the film installer; do not add an unapproved protection layer under the film.
  4. Protect the remaining vehicle according to its separate product instructions and installation schedule.

Common mistake

Applying a ceramic coating across the whole car immediately before partial PPF can complicate the bonding surface. The bonnet and the uncovered paint have different next steps even if both were polished.

What a useful result looks like

A useful handover identifies the prepared film area, the remaining protection areas and any accepted defects. Keep the bonnet free of unapproved residues until the installer takes over. After PPF installation, coating the film requires another compatibility check.
