Stainless Weld Heat Tint and Nano Coating: Separate Finishing from Protection

Visible colour near a weld needs a fabrication-finish assessment before nano coating. A protective surface treatment is not proof that the weld area has been correctly prepared.

Record the weld condition

Identify the component, known grade and intended finish. Photograph the weld area with contextual views. Distinguish an intended decorative colour from uncertain fabrication discolouration using supplier information rather than appearance alone.

Refer the finishing requirement

Use the fabricator’s appropriate process and acceptance criteria. Outokumpu describes post-fabrication treatment as part of restoring suitable surface quality; simply improving the visible colour does not settle every underlying preparation question. Do not invent a household acid-cleaning procedure.

Accept the surface before coating

Record the completed finishing work and the agreed appearance. Keep unresolved defects outside an unsupported coating promise. Confirm the actual surface condition with the responsible supplier before selecting preparation for the nano product.

Preserve both stage records

Document the coating product, method and care plan separately from weld finishing. At a later review, compare the observed mark with those records instead of assuming that every weld-area change arose from coating application.

Frequently asked question

Does a clear coating over a discoloured weld prove the area is ready?

No. Confirm the required fabrication finishing and its acceptance separately from protective coating suitability.
