Passivation and Nano Coating on Stainless Steel: Define the Requested Process

Passivation and an aftermarket nano coating are different treatments. Name the actual requirement before comparing suppliers or approving a surface process.

Read the component specification

Identify the stainless grade, supplied finish and any stated fabrication or treatment requirement. Do not replace a named process with a general request for protection. Clarify which responsible party defines acceptance for the component.

Keep the treatment identities distinct

Outokumpu distinguishes chemical passivation from other post-fabrication cleaning and treatment processes. A nano coating label or a water-repellency result is not documentation that the specified passivation process was performed.

Coordinate the approved sequence

Obtain the relevant surface-preparation and coating guidance for the actual component. Confirm whether subsequent work is compatible with the required finish and intended use. Keep any specialised application approval connected to the exact product and process.

Retain separate evidence

Record the completed fabrication treatment and the later coating application with their own acceptance information. Use the correct terminology in handover so future maintenance does not confuse surface-care treatment with the component’s original specification.

Frequently asked question

Can a nano coating certificate substitute automatically for a passivation record?

No. They document different processes. Confirm what the actual specification requires and obtain the corresponding evidence.
