Confirm the vehicle or mounting-system method and who will perform removal and refitting. Record the fitted condition first. Do not treat access to concealed paint as permission to improvise with fasteners or attachment systems.
Use suitable cleaning before assessing the paint. Note mounting contact, chips, previous repairs and residue. Keep those observations separate from ordinary swirl marks on the surrounding boot lid or bumper.
Select a compatible tool or hand method that can be controlled in the recess. Check clearance to edges and fittings. A flat-panel test does not approve polishing a narrow lip or a chipped fastener hole.
Record the treated paint and any excluded contact areas. Inspect residue removal before the agreed refitting step. Do not promise that polishing will remove impressions or damage caused by the mounting arrangement.
No. First identify residue, correctable surface marks and mounting damage. Choose a process supported by inspection and access.
