Transferred Coating Containers: Preserve Product Identity in the Workshop

Moving a product into another working container can disconnect it from its instructions and history. Establish an approved identification method before using a transferred product.

Confirm that transfer is permitted

Review the supplier instructions and packaging guidance for the exact product. Some products depend on their original container or have specific handling requirements. Do not assume a convenient dispenser is suitable.

Keep the identifying record

Where transfer is approved, keep the product name, batch, source container and transfer date connected to the working container. Distinguish preparation cleaners, coatings and maintenance products clearly. Follow the applicable supplied labelling and handling instructions.

Avoid ambiguous mixtures

Do not top up an unidentified container or combine material simply because the bottles look alike. Resolve uncertain identity through the workshop’s approved process. A new label cannot reconstruct a lost product history.

Review use at the bay

Confirm the container identity before application and record the product in the job sheet. Remove unidentified working containers from the active process until their disposition is decided. This prevents a support investigation from depending on memory alone.

Frequently asked question

Is handwriting the brand name enough?

It may omit the exact product, batch and transfer history. Use the approved identification and handling method for the material being transferred.
