Cleaner Tracks on PPF: Compare Wet Residue and the Dry Finish

A streak visible during wiping may disappear after proper removal, while another may remain in the finish. Judge PPF after the supported cleaning process is complete.

Identify the cleaner history

Record the exact cleaner, dilution and removal method. Include previous toppers and dressings. A generic description such as film-safe does not establish suitability for every finish or concentration.

Use one controlled section

Follow the film and cleaner instructions on an appropriate small area. Keep towels clean and avoid increasing pressure when a smear persists. Inspect only after the area is suitably dry, using the same light and viewing angle as before.

Choose the next investigation

If tracks disappear, review dosing, rinse coverage and towel condition. If they remain, stop and provide photographs and product details to the installer. Do not switch directly to polish or a coating in an attempt to bury an unexplained appearance change.

Frequently asked question

Does a wet smear prove that the PPF topcoat has failed?

No. Complete compatible residue removal and inspect the dry film before drawing that conclusion.
