PPF Seams on a Coating Job: Include Them in the Scope

A film seam introduces an installation boundary as well as a coating boundary. Map it before spreading or levelling a coating nearby.

Identify every transition

Record film seams, overlaps and partial-coverage lines across the vehicle. Ask the installer about unusual joins or repairs. Treat the exposed film and adjacent painted areas according to their respective instructions.

Control the application

Use a suitable applicator and working section so product does not pool along the seam. Do not force an applicator beneath a film edge. Confirm the exact coating’s compatibility and timing for the film; a method used successfully on paint is not enough.

Inspect the line explicitly

Check accessible transitions after levelling and record any unresolved residue or appearance difference. If the seam itself is abnormal, separate the installation issue from the coating workmanship and refer it appropriately. Keep the map for later maintenance visits.

Frequently asked question

Should the installer try to coat under a PPF seam?

No. The work should address approved exposed surfaces while respecting the film installation boundary.
