Passivation and Nano Coating: Distinct Surface Processes

Passivation and protective coating should not be treated as interchangeable service descriptions. Ask the metal specialist and coating supplier what process is required for the particular component and condition.

Define the preparation need

Identify fabrication history, contamination and any corrosion concerns. Keep the stainless grade and finish information available. A specialist may recommend a metal-treatment process for reasons different from the desired appearance or cleanability of a later coating.

Avoid improvised chemical treatment

Do not reproduce industrial metal-treatment methods from a general article. Such processes require appropriate expertise, controls and product instructions. Ordinary household coating preparation should not be expanded into specialist metal treatment without a defined professional scope.

Coordinate the sequence

If specialist treatment is needed, confirm its completion and the surface condition required before coating. Record what was done and which finish remains exposed. Ask the coating supplier about compatibility with that prepared surface, then follow the approved application and maintenance process. Clear records prevent future cleaners from assuming every treatment has the same role.
