Silicone-Free Car Polish: Bodyshop and Coating Questions

Separate silicone-free, filler-free and coating-ready claims when evaluating car polish for a bodyshop or ceramic coating preparation workflow.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

Silicone-free is a specific formulation claim, not a complete description of what remains on paint after polishing. It does not automatically establish that a product is filler-free, free of all lubricating residue, approved for every bodyshop, or ready for every ceramic coating.

Treat each claim independently

A polish needs components that let the abrasive system work and wipe away appropriately. Even when a supplier states that silicone is absent, the finished surface may still require the prescribed residue-removal process.

Likewise, bodyshop suitability depends on the product and the facility’s procedures. Ask for the manufacturer’s current technical information and the bodyshop’s own requirements rather than assuming a general detailing label answers every refinishing question.

Keep the workflow free from cross-contamination

Product selection alone does not control what enters a work area. A pad previously used with an all-in-one product, a towel carrying dressing residue or a dirty storage shelf can undermine a carefully chosen polishing process.

Identify pads and towels by job and stage. Store clean materials separately from used ones. When changing products, use a clean appropriate pad rather than mixing residues and then judging the new formula’s performance.

Verify the finish before coating

Use the coating manufacturer’s approved preparation method after the correction process. Inspect under suitable lighting and assess the actual surface before applying protection. A silicone-free statement should not be converted into permission to skip preparation.

If the supplier explicitly documents a coating-ready process, check which coating, paint condition and operating method that statement covers. Do not extend a compatibility claim for one system to all products on the shelf.

Questions worth asking a supplier

Request a clear answer on intended surfaces, machine and pad pairings, protective ingredients, inspection cleaning and storage. Where a claim matters to your service, keep the written technical guidance with your job procedure.

The practical goal is a predictable transition from polishing to the next treatment. Precise documentation and clean tools provide a stronger basis for that transition than treating silicone-free as a universal guarantee.
