Pre-Wet or Dry Application: Do Not Transfer Instructions Between Cleaners

Whether a surface should be pre-wet or dry is a product-specific application instruction. Do not carry the method used for one cleaner into another product merely because both target a similar soil.

The key distinction

Water already present on the surface can change the application condition, while drying behaviour and coverage also depend on the workflow. The correct starting condition should come from the exact cleaner instructions. A workshop should make that condition visible in its procedure instead of relying on an operator's general habit.

Practical checks

  1. Confirm the required surface condition and temperature limits for the selected cleaner.
  2. Prepare a manageable area and follow the stated application sequence.
  3. Record deviations when investigating unexpected cleaning or appearance results.

Example

Illustrative example: a technician applies a new product using the pre-wetting routine associated with the previous cleaner. If the new instructions specify another condition, the trial has not evaluated the approved method. Correcting the process is necessary before judging the product's performance or changing its concentration.

Scope and limits

Do not interpret this guide as a recommendation to apply chemicals to a hot or unsuitable surface. It provides no universal dry-application rule. The product's current instructions and the surface manufacturer's restrictions govern the job, including any required test area and rinsing steps.
