Moisture-Curing Coating Does Not Mean Add Water to the Bottle

A product described as moisture curing should still be used exactly as supplied unless its instructions explicitly require another component. The description of its curing mechanism is not permission to introduce water into the container.

The key distinction

Water exposure during storage, mixing and application represents different situations. A formulation can depend on controlled moisture exposure after application while requiring protection from contamination beforehand. The supplier must define those conditions for the actual product. An installer should not create a new preparation method from the general name of a chemical process.

Practical checks

  1. Check whether the product is supplied as one component or a defined multi-component system.
  2. Follow the stated closure, storage and application requirements.
  3. Ask technical support about any suspected water contamination before using the remaining material.

Example

Illustrative example: a bottle has been left open near a wet wash area. The fact that its coating is described as moisture curing does not establish that the contents remain acceptable. Record the exposure and product identity, then seek a disposition decision before applying it to a customer vehicle.

Scope and limits

Do not attempt to rescue a changed product by dilution or improvised mixing. This guide does not specify the chemistry of every NANOLAB product, and it does not replace the safety data sheet or application instructions for the selected formulation.
