Removing Bird Droppings from a Coated Boat

Bird droppings should be addressed with a method that suits the boat’s finish and coating. Dry scraping or forceful wiping can create an additional problem while trying to remove the original deposit.

Prepare the affected area

Choose a suitable approved cleaner and follow its instructions for loosening the deposit. Work safely and avoid spreading contamination onto clean surrounding panels. Use appropriate protection for the task and clean tools dedicated to the affected area.

Lift residue gently

Do not scrub a hard deposit with a dry towel. Follow the permitted cleaning process, rinse as directed and inspect after drying. Keep the cleaning liquid away from surfaces for which it is unsuitable. If a mark remains, distinguish residual contamination from a possible change in the finish before choosing further treatment.

Escalate persistent marks with context

Tell the installer approximately how long the deposit was present and what cleaning method was used. Include a close view and a photograph showing its location on the vessel. Avoid repeated polishing attempts without a plan for the existing coating. Review storage or cover arrangements if the same area is repeatedly exposed.
